Affies (15) Taught A Lesson By Waterkloof (24)

Affies and their supporters knew they were in for a hard day at the office and that is maybe where everything went wrong for the boys in white.

The Waterkloof team that lost against Helpmekaar 8-45 showed in that loss that they are not a team to give up and play dead. The score on that day maybe not a true reflection of the game but Waterkloof did enough for that Kokkerot to come and shout in my ear.

Affies without 11 players and then losing Johan van Zyl in the second half were going to struggle but nobody expected this. Waterkloof started off showing their intent storming to a 14-0 lead. Half time saw Affies slowly coming to grips with the score of 10-14 flattering Affies.

With Waterkloof controlling all facets of the game, Affies did very well to only lose 24-15. Ulrich Maritz had a wonderful day at flyhalf directing his troops to a convincing victory. Affies played more as individuals than a team and anybody claiming the injuries as an excuse is completely missing the point.

Affies played without the passion that made all their supporters gloat after the defeats against Grey College, Boishaai and Paarl Gim. The decisions on the field was that of a team that did not think nor care and all involved with the 1stXV should use this period of rest to decide if they are worthy of their association with Affies. Waterkloof showed what it meant to play with passion and commitment normally associated with Affies.

Scorers:

Waterkloof 24 (14) - Tries: PJ Krugell (2), Wikus Lindeque. Conversions: Ulrich Maritz (3). Penalty: Maritz.

Affies 15 (10) - Tries: Jaco Labuschagne, Ruben Meiring. Conversion: Regardt Roets. Penalty: Roets.
